In 1995 Brooklyn Day Services, ran by Hartlepool Social Services, provided a drop-in centre as well as other facilities for people experiencing problems with their mental health. It was around this time when two founder members suggested turning a garage at the rear of the building into a small art studio. Permission was granted on a six month trial basis and several enthusiastic service users set about creating an art studio. With the help of Brooklyn staff it was operational within weeks. Although small and very cramped, it was a great success and in its first year acquired 20 additional members.
Over the years the art studio grew from strength to strength and ideas of larger premises and a user led studio began to emerge. What was once a dream became a reality and in 2004 we acquired our present building in Park Road. Work began on transforming the premises and in 2005 the doors were opened.
